Dear Mr Policeman,
A young boy Todd sums up what all of us feel
Hello Mr Policeman,
I’m so sorry to bother you, my dad says you guys are always really busy. But I hope you read this letter, and I hope you read it soon.
My mum and dad have always told me that you guys stood up for what’s right, and that if I’m ever in trouble and I see one of you, I should run to you and get help. They told me that it’s your job to make sure that the bad guys can’t get away with doing bad things.
You guys are honestly my heroes, I really hope that one day I can also be a Policeman. Your uniforms look so cool and it must be so cool to take the bad guys to jail.
I remember one time some bad guy broke the window of our car and stole some stuff, and when you guys came to my house, I was so excited, I didn’t even care about our stolen stuff. I knew that day I wanted to be one of you when I grow up.
But recently my mum and dad have been looking really worried, and they look almost frightened. I’ve been watching them and it always happens when they hear about some guy called “Epstein” on the news. They always switch it off when I’m around too.
Afterwards they have looks on their faces that remind me of the time I ate an old chip from the back of our car and was really sick all the next day.
I asked my mummy what was happening, but she doesn’t want to talk about it.
So I asked my dad, and he just says “Epstein was a very bad man, and he did very bad things, and a lot of people that knew him did bad things with him. Terrible things, son, things we can’t really talk to you about.”
Now I know Mr Policeman that about the worst thing someone can do to someone is hurt someone else, so they die. But my dad says these things this man and his friends have done is even worse, but he won’t tell me what they are.
So I asked him when the bad men are going to jail for what they did. When I asked him that, his face went all sad. He just said that he didn’t know, and looked even sadder. He said “probably none of them will ever get arrested, they’re too rich”.
My friend told me that these bad guys hurt kids, is that true? That sounds pretty bad.
I don’t understand, Mr Policeman. Aren’t the bad guys supposed to go to jail? And didn’t these guys do really, really bad things? Things so bad my dad won’t even tell me?
Does being rich mean you can do bad things and not have to go to jail? That doesn’t seem fair to me.
I don’t want my mummy and daddy looking so sad anymore, so I’m writing you this letter today, to specifically ask that you arrest these bad guys and take them to jail as soon as possible.
Please, Mr Policeman, isn’t that your job?
Please help us, Mr Policeman.
I’m counting on you.
Yours sincerely,
Todd
